Terrain Update Preview

As some of you may know, I have been working on a massive terrain upgrade for awhile now. I just wanted to give you guys an update to show progress and explain what I have planned.

The terrain sculpting is almost done. Nearly every zone has had a massive rework. For reference, this is what the map in the live build looks like:

Currently, the new map looks like this:

You can see my previous Patreon post here that detailed the process of changing the fire zone. 

Since that post, I have made massive changes to the rest of the map. Here’s a quick overview of what I’ve done so far.

  • The area around the Forest Outpost is now a swamp (the white plane will be water)
  • Added in more mountains around the Pressure Ziggurat/ Air biome
  • Completely redesigned the Earth biome. It is no longer just a flat area.
  • Lightning zone is still in progress, but lots of changes have been made.

Keep an eye out for another update soon. I will be finishing the last of the terrain sculpting in a day or two, then I will be texturing everything.

I have found a better terrain shader which will make a massive difference in the way the terrain looks. Right now the textures are rendered very flat and boring. If everything goes smoothly, the new textures will pop and show a lot more depth and detail. I plan on recording a time lapse video of the textures going on, so look out for that as well!
